Woman Arrested for Allegedly Killing Husband with Machete in Dowa

Police in Dowa have arrested a 32-year-old woman, Veronica Sezani, on suspicion of murdering her 39-year-old husband, Joseph Lingston, by allegedly attacking him with a machete and a hoe handle.

Dowa Police spokesperson Alice Sitima said the couple had previously separated following domestic disputes but later reconciled after family discussions.

However, on the night of 25 June 2026, the couple reportedly argued again. Police say that while the husband was asleep, the suspect allegedly attacked him with a machete and repeatedly struck him with a hoe handle, leaving him with critical injuries.

Neighbours rushed to the house after hearing screams and took Lingston to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Sitima said the suspect is currently admitted to hospital undergoing a mental health assessment before she can appear in court.

Police investigations into the incident are continuing.
