Malawian music producer and artist manager Chawa Beats has announced the end of his nine-year professional relationship with musician Merchah, closing a chapter that played a significant role in the artist’s rise to fame.

In an emotional Facebook post, Chawa revealed that he met Merchah when he was just 14 years old, and said they had shared years of growth, challenges and success together.

“After 9 years, today marks the end of our journey with Merchah,” Chawa wrote.

The producer, who worked closely with Merchah throughout his career, described the artist as one of Malawi’s most gifted artists.

“You are very much talented. No mainstream artist is near you. No artist can touch you. You have so much grace. I will always want you to win,” he wrote.

Chawa also apologized for any mistakes he may have made during their time together.

“I’m human. During the nine-year period I might have said things that you did not like. I might have delayed you in some type of way that I didn’t even notice. I sincerely apologize. I hope you find it in your heart to forgive me,” he said.

The partnership is widely credited with helping shape Merchah’s career, particularly after the release of his breakthrough hit “Naji” in 2022, a song produced by Chawa Beats that turned the singer into a household name in Malawi.

Despite announcing the end of their working relationship, Chawa emphasized that there is no bad blood between them.

“We are not enemies and we will never be. I’ll always support you as my brother,” he wrote while wishing Merchah success in the next phase of his music career.

As of the time of publishing, Merchah has not publicly responded to Chawa Beats’ announcement or explained the reason behind the split.
