Minibus Conductor Arrested in Dowa Over Suspected Illegal Possession of Medical Drugs

Police at Mvera in Dowa have arrested a 23-year-old minibus conductor on suspicion of illegally possessing assorted medical drugs without a permit.
Dowa Police spokesperson Alice Sitima identified the suspect as Gerald Chigona, who was arrested at the Mvera checkpoint while travelling from Nkhotakota to Lilongwe aboard a minibus, registration number LL 18502.
“Our officers at the checkpoint discovered a wrapped bag and, upon questioning, the conductor claimed it contained dried fish that had been given to him by a customer for delivery to Lilongwe,” said Sitima.
She added that when the officers opened the bag, they discovered various medical drugs and immediately arrested Chigona.
Gerald Chigona hails from Mbaluku Village, under Traditional Authority Malengachanzi in Nkhotakota District.
He is expected to appear in court soon to answer charges related to the alleged illegal possession of medical drugs.
