Police in Phalombe have arrested two men in connection with the alleged theft of medicines from Nambazo Health Centre.

The suspects have been identified as Felix Banowa, 45, of Mumbuwa Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mkhumba in Phalombe, and Stobert Sinoya, 36, of Makoloma Village under Traditional Authority Mabuka in Mulanje.

Phalombe Police spokesperson Jimmy Kapanja said Banowa, who worked as a ground labourer at the health facility, was allegedly found inside the ART room during the early hours of July 8, 2026. He reportedly escaped through a window before he was later tracked down and arrested.

According to Kapanja, Banowa told investigators that he used keys he allegedly stole in 2014 to gain access to the room. Preliminary investigations indicate that more than 20,000 CTX 960mg tablets have allegedly been stolen from the health facility since 2024.

Police have since arrested Sinoya as part of the ongoing investigation into the case.

The two suspects are expected to appear in court after police complete the necessary procedures.
