Police in Zomba have arrested 19-year-old Charles M’bona for allegedly breaking into a house in the city’s Matawale Township and stealing property worth K1.7 million.
According to Zomba Police spokesperson Andrew Mwale, M’bona broke into the house while the homeowner was away in Blantyre and the domestic worker left in charge had gone to church.
Mwale said that when the domestic worker returned, they found the house had been broken into and several items, including a plasma television and shoes, had been stolen.
While searching the surrounding area, the worker allegedly spotted the suspect hiding in an unfinished building nearby.
The worker called for assistance, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
M’bona was subsequently handed over to the police and is expected to appear in court to answer burglary and theft charges
