The Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) has strongly denied social media allegations linking South African businessman Zunaid Moti to a diplomatic appointment and preferential treatment by the Government of Malawi.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Chief Secretary to the Government Dr. Justin Adack K. Saidi said the claims are “entirely false, malicious and deliberately designed to mislead the public” while seeking to undermine confidence in President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s administration.

The OPC further dismissed assertions that Mr. Moti had benefited from government contracts or any special government favours, saying he has not been appointed to any government or diplomatic role.

The statement also clarified that no new mineral licences have been issued since the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) administration introduced a moratorium to allow for a compliance audit and the clearing of the country’s mining cadastre system.
