Dubai Opens Up for Malawi Fresh Produce Export

It is envisaged that livelihoods of hundreds of local farmers could improve with the opening of fresh produce export markets in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

This is one of the outcomes of a recent meeting held in Lilongwe also attended by farmers from Mozambique and Zambia.

Executive member of the National Association of Small and Medium Enterprises responsible of women in business Miss Angela Munthali said the farmers have to be members of the association to be able to export.

Among the fresh produce to be exported are okra, beans, avocado pear, mangoes, green paper and carrots.

Executive member of the National Association of Small and Medium Enterprises responsible of women in business Miss Angela Munthali told Zodiak Online that Corporate Purchasing Service will be responsible for exportation of the produce through Air Cargo.

She said the company was concerned that Air Cargo’s plane usually left the country without any agricultural products on demand in Dubai.

The plane would then carry fresh produce from other East African Countries such as Kenya.

Miss Munthali thinks apart from improving the livelihoods of farmers, this will also improve forex availability in the country.

Miss Munthali said NASME is also looking for other international markets in Europe and the Far East. – Zodiak Online
