Pressure forces State House to speak out on Mutharika’s return day

As rumours continue to spread on the social media that President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is critically ill and that he has been hospitalized, State controlled Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) online has started posting photos of Mutharika.

As this is not enough, the state owned online page has also issued a story indicating that President Mutharika will be returning home this coming Sunday.

“State House is informing the public that His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika will on Sunday 16th October 2016 return to Malawi from the United States of America (USA) where he attended the 71st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and also attended to various government businesses.

“The President shall arrive at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) at 13:00 hrs,” reads in part the statement signed by Mgeme Kalirani.

The statement comes barely hours after Minister of Information and Communications Technology Malisoni Ndau threatened to deal with those people speculating that Mutharika is critically ill in the United States of America.
