Police officer commits suicide in Zomba

The body of a police officer who was declared missing early this week was on Saturday found hanging from a tree in Zomba.

The body of Assistant Superintendent Dickson Kaipa Gama was discovered in a maize field around Chancellor College by one of the workers at the institution.

The 57-year-old Kaipa Gama went missing from his house during the wee hours of February 28, 2017.

Eastern Region Police says the deceased left a suicide note, complaining that his office had failed to assist him with money to help him nurse his sick sister.

In the suicide note also, the deceased urged his wife to take a fatherly role by taking good care of his children.

Postmortem revealed that the deceased died due to strangulation.

The deceased was laid to rest at his home village Msikuwa in the area of Traditional Authority Chikowi in Zomba district.
