Man arrested for being in possession of fake Sobo Squash

A 17 year old man is in police custody for possessing counterfeit Sobo Squash in the lake shore district of Nkhata-bay

Nkhata-Bay Police Public Relations Officer, Ignatius Esau confirmed of the arrest and identified the suspect as Joseph Banda.

According to Esau, the suspect was diluting Davita Juice using water from the lake and later packed it in empty 2 Litre Sobo bottles.

“We got a tip from a well-wisher and with keen interest we followed the issue and intercepted the said suspect at one of the rest houses at Nkhata-Bay Boma where he was found with 54 bottles (2 Litres) of fake Sobo Squash.

“Then after quizzing him with questions he revealed that he was diluting Davita Juice using water from the lake,” said Esau.

The Police PRO also said that the suspect (Banda) is expected to appear in court soon to answer a charge of being found in possession of counterfeit products contrary to section 388 (1) of the penal code.

Banda hails from Wasi Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mabuka in Mulanje district.
