Chilima’s motorcade spend a night on the road in Karonga

Information sourced by faceofmalawi reporter indicates that the country’s Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima’s convoy was forced to spend a night on the road due to road cut off at Jalawe along the M1 road near Mchenga coal mine in Rumphi.

Chilima on Wednesday went to Karonga to cheer floods victims where he assured them of government support.

The Vice President distributed 100 blankets and 100 plastic pails to some victims at Kasowa Anglican Church in the area Traditional Authority Kyungu.

As he was returning from Karonga, Chilima found the bridge at Jalawe in Rumphi washed away causing traffic-jam.

Chilima was forced to abandon the motorcade and use airplane to fry him back to Lilongwe.

FOM’s reporter who rushed to the scene was stopped from taking pictures of Chilima’s motorcade.

The relief convoy bound for Karonga flood victims faced a similar challenge upon reaching at the sight.

Four people are reported dead in Karonga with three missing while 5520 households rendered homeless.

Livestock as well as hectares of crops have been destroyed, according to a report compiled by the district disaster committee.
