Police in Chiradzulu are keeping in custody a 21-year-old Gift Eraton for raping a 4-year-old girl to death.
It is reported that on 21 May, the victim and her 7-year-old sister were sent to fetch a pail of water from a nearby borehole in even hours around 6 Pm.
On their way back, they bumped into the rapist who dragged the 4-year-old girl into the pigeon peas garden and raped her.
Her 7-year-old sister had fled and rushed to the village where she informed the elders about the news.
When people got to the scene, they found the young girl lying in the bush unconscious.
She was later taken to Chiradzulu district hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The young girl died due to internal bleeding as her privates were severely injured, revealed the postmortem results.
The deceased hailed from Malambo village in the area of Traditional Authority Kadewere in Chiradzulu.
