Tit for tat: Police beat up protesting primary school learners in Chileka

Police on Wednesday reacted badly by beating up primary school learners who were protesting against the ongoing strike by teachers across the country.

The development comes barely hours after Primary school learners in Lunzu attacked and injured an Officer in Charge for Chileka Police Station.

According to information at hand, pupils from Kachanga primary School in Chileka on Wednesday blocked the road to Chileka airport and smashed some vehicles.

In reaction to the protest, Police officers rushed to the scene and attacked the learners mercilessly.

As this was not enough, the police officers arrested three learners who are currently being kept at Chileka Police Station.

Chileka police spokesperson Grace Mwale confirmed the arrest of the schoolchildren.

Meanwhile the Malawi Police Service has condemned the strike by students.
