Mutharika approves the de-linking of constituent colleges from UNIMA

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has approved the de-linking of the constituent colleges from the University of Malawi (UNIMA), a well-placed State House source has confirmed.

The development means Polytechnic to will now merge with College of Accountancy to form a separate university.

Chancellor College will combine with Domasi College of Education, Bunda College will merge with Natural Resources, [it has already merged as Lilongwe University of Natural Resources-Luanar] and the nursing courses of College of Health Sciences will go to Kamuzu College of Nursing (KCN) while remaining courses would go to College of Medicine to form a university.

Recently, there has been divisions on the matter with many Malawians trashing the move, saying the move is aimed at killing the dreams of former President Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda who founded the UNIMA.

Banda had three dreams after his release from Gweru Prison: to transfer the capital from Zomba to Lilongwe, to construct the Lakeshore Road and to establish the University of Malawi.
