Malawi Home Affairs Minister,Uladi Mussa, has been asked by his fellow Muslims to drop chanting Islamic slogan La ilaha illa Allah at political rallies of ruling People’s Party.
La ilaha illa Allah is an Arabic transliteration which means “there is no god but Allah.”
Mussa has been chanting the slogan at political rallies where he breaks into a series of songs from various denominations, symbolising the demise of Peoples Party’s foes.
Accoridng to Nation on Sunday, a group calling itself the Lilongwe Muslim Concern has complained to Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) over what it is calling the desecration and trivialisation of Islam by Mussa when he is making speeches at PP rallies.
“We, the concerned Muslims of Lilongwe, are complaining with the way honourable Uladi Mussa uses the phrase [La ilaha illa Allah] at political rallies,” reads the petition signed by Mussa Time, the group’s secretary, chairperson Bwanali Nkhala and treasurer Jaffali aloko.
It adds: “Chanting la lailaha illallah is one of the icons of Islam and for him to use it willy-nilly being a Muslim himself is unfortunate. This phrase is only suited for places where there [are] religious activities going on,” reads the petition in part.”
Mussa has been quoting the Koran and the Holy Bible in his speeches at the rally.
Speaking in Blantyre on Saturday at a political rally in Chilomoni, he claimed to be a prophet of politics.
“Let me tell all Malawians that I dream what will happen. To the opposition political party leaders, come to me and I will tell you what will happen to you in the 2014 elections because I already had a dream about it,” he urged.
Mussa said he has already dreamt that President Joyce Banda will rule beyond 2014.
