Leadership with Compassion Party participates in MEC Meetings towards 2025 tripartite elections preparations

Leadership with Compassion Party (LCP) is one of the political parties that have been invited by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to participate in their organized meetings countrywide.

The development comes in after the party was recently stopped by MEC from participating in the Karonga 2019 by elections on allegations that it was de-registered. The party took MEC and the registrar general of political parties to court where the judge declared the party fully registered and eligible to participate in any called political activities.

MEC is currently conducting national wide awareness campaign with all registered political parties through Multiparty Liaison Committee (MPLC), District Elections Supervisory Team, Faith leaders and others.

During the awareness campaign MEC through its Chief Elections Officer Andrew Mpesi is presenting new electoral laws, list of registration centres by Ward and by Constituency, the state of preparedness for the 2025 General Election and other pressing issues.

Speaking in an interview with faceofmalawi LCP President Dr. Sally Kumwenda described the meetings as an eye opener ahead of the 2025 polls.

“I feel excited and very grateful to God. This national awareness campaign on electoral new laws ahead of the 2025 General elections is very crucial to every party. We couldn’t have managed to miss these meetings.

“The feedback I have so far received from all LCP representatives across the country who have already attended these meetings in various districts is very helpful to us as a party. It will truly enable us to prepare well towards the elections.”

Elaborating on the benefits the meetings have been to her as the president of LCP, Kumwenda had this to say

“I have understood what is required of us as a party in terms of conducting ourselves during the campaign period. As well as our requirements as aspiring presidential candidates in terms of citizenship amongst other things,” said Dr. Kumwenda.

“Additionally for our aspirants MPs and Councillors, we are now more aware of the boundary demarcations we will focus on when campaigning”. She added.

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is scheduled to conclude the awareness campaign on May 14, 2024.
