Charles Yami Saidi, the boy said to be behind the leaked naked photos of a Blantyre International University student known as Mirriam has come in to distance himself from the photos and a video clip that are circulating on the internet of him and her ex-girlfriend in compromising situations.
Writing in a group accessible to students of the University, he has said that his memory card was stolen from him and that explains the reason why the images and the video were leaked. Below is his statement, unedited:
“To whom it may concern,
I know that this will not fix the damage done by the leaking of those pictures, but the truth surrounding this matter is that my memory card was stolen from my phone and I have no idea who took it. The fact is that whoever did this knows me and the girl in the photos and he/she knew who and where to send those photos as everyone can see how they have circulated around even internationally
“People might think this is an apology or a way of making myself look innocent or whatever in this matter but is not; I do take
blame for the leaking of these photos because I kept them and did not delete them from my memory card for that YES! I do accept responsibility but I did not send them to anyone coz from what I hear these photos are circulating on BBM, WhatApp, Twitter and other social media and everyone who received these photos can confirm that they did not get them from me.
“Nowadays it’s so easy to create a facebook, Twitter, email account etc without using your true details. One question I would like to post out there is. Why would I create a facebook account to hurt this girl and send friend requests to my friends and family, to her friends and family and even include pictures of my private parts in those photos? To be honest if I was the one who did this I would not have include a picture of my private parts and send friend requests to my friends and family. Whoever did this had a clear intention to mess up the relationship between me and the girl in question and all I can say is congratulations you have succeed in your intended mission job well done.
“Yes they can be evidence that I did this but we all know that people say things when they are mad that they do not mean and it’s normal in each and every human being. Some things are just coincidence; two people can argue and words can be said for example “I will kill you” and if that person is killed the next day of course people who suspect the person who said those words. All am asking to the public is that please don’t judge and or blame the girl in the photos if u want to blame someone blame me for not deleting the pictures and not keeping safe our private life contents.
“I have received numerous calls and texts concerning this matter some just asking, some joking, some threats to kill me beat me up and all. But I really don’t care what happens to me weather I will get beaten up, killed or go to prison regarding this matter. This girl has been humiliated enough and some people are getting pleasure or satisfaction in this matter, it’s just sad and only god knows who did this. This is all I have and had to say concerning this matter, because people have already made up their minds
concerning this matter.”
