BUS ACCIDENT CLAIMS 13 LIVES

Following the recent story that FaceofMalawi carried stating that a Zimbabwean operated bus, traveling between Blantyre and Harare has been involved in an accident, 10 kilometers away from the Zimbabwean capital.

Reports gathered by FOM says about 13 people have died while 18 people are battling for their lives due to the accident.

Immigration authorities at Mwanza border confirmed of the accident by saying there were about 25 Malawians of the 42 people on board.

The bus involved in an accident with a haulage truck at Mtuli Bridge on the 22km peg along the Harare-Nyamapanda highway.

Zimbabwean Police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi confirmed of the accident.

According to him, the bus driver was trying to avoid a collision with the truck when he lost control, resulting in the bus veering off the road and plunging into a ditch.

Nyathi said 10 people died on the spot while 3 others died on the way to Parirenyatwa hospital in Harare.

Police have identified the Bus driver operated by Zupco, registration number SZ 0002 as Wonderful Nyamurambe.
