MULUZI’s MK1.7 BILLION CORRUPTION CASE DATE BACK TO COURT NEXT MONTH

The MK1.7 billion corruption case involving former President Dr. Bakili Muluzi and other United Democratic Front (UDF) officials is expected to resumes at the High Court on August 14 next month.

Muluzi wants the case to be referred to constitutional court for review, saying the case was political in nature.

On Tuesday, Chief Justice Andrew Nyirenda deferred hearing of the constitutional application by Muluzi due to what he called failure by the State and defence to clarify some legal issues.

Judicial Spokesperson Mlenga Mvula confirmed of the development in an interview with the Press, saying the case has been adjourned to allow both the State and defence lawyers do research on the raised legal issues.

When pressed to explain whether legal issues raised by Nyirenda concerns Muluzi or the State, Mlenga remained coy.

Muluzi and Violet Whisky are being accused of diverting money amounting to MK1.7 billion into personal accounts.
