POLICE SET FREE UDF MP ON CLAIMS OF HAVING SEX WITH UNDERAGE

Police have withdrawn alleged rape case against United Democratic Front (UDF) Member of Parliament for Machinga Central constituency, Shaibu Kaliati.

Kaliati was allegedly accused of having sex with a 16-year-old girl at Annies Lodge in Lilongwe earlier this month, leading to his arrest.

But after Police investigation it has been revealed that Kaliati never had sex with the girl as she was on menstrual period.

National Police spokesperson Nicholas Gondwa confirmed of the development with one of the privately owned radio on Friday.

Gondwa said hospital document shows that the girl was not defiled as she was on monthly period.

National Police spokesperson also revealed that the mother of the girl has asked the Police to close the case, saying it will psychologically affect her child.

Meanwhile Kaliati is yet to comment on the matter.
