FISHERMAN KILLED ON LAKE CHILWA: SUSPECT ARRESTED

Police at Nayuchi in Machinga are keeping in custody 25 year old Usuman Bizwick for allegedly killing 35 year old Meya Walusa on lake Chilwa after the two picked a quarrel over trivial matters.

Police in Machinga have confirmed the death saying medical examination at Nayuchi Health Center indicated that Meya died due to severe loss of blood.

The two were fishermen on the Cholera infested lake Chilwa, according to Machinga Police Public Relations Officer, Constable, Davie Sulumba.

According to the publicist, another fisherman, Haroon Abdul reported the issue to Nayuchi Police after he saw Bizwick in his own boat chasing Walusa who was also riding his.

The debate as to who between the two had more cash than the other arose and degenerated into a quarrel which resulted into a bloody scene.

Walusa was shouting for help and upon following the chase it was discovered that he was bleeding and had sustained a deep cut on his neck, according to police statement recorded from Abdul who witnessed the chase while seating on a floating hut (Chimbowela ) in lake Chilwa.

“Bizwick is expected to answer murder charges contrary to section 209 of the Penal Code,” Sulumba said.

Both Bizwick and Walusa come from Mphonde Village, Sub-Traditional Authority Mchinguza in the district.

Authorities in Machinga were about to set ablaze the floating huts on the lake Chilwa after Cholera outbreak was reported.

The decision was however reversed.mana
