University fee hike saga update: Six KCN students released on bail

Blantyre Magistrate Court has released on bail six students from Kamuzu College of Nursing-Blantyre campus arrested on Monday by Police.

The students were arrested for allegedly being involved in the protest against fee hike as announced by the University Council.

Before release the students, Blantyre First Grade Magistrate Viva Nyimba ordered the students to be reporting to police every Monday and they should inform the police when leaving out of Blantyre.

Magistrate Nyimba said he has released the students on bail to allow them to complete writing their examinations.

In a related development, the Police in Lilongwe are still keeping in custody eleven students arrested on Monday morning for staging demonstrations against fee hike.

Meanwhile President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has said he will intervene on the fee hike saga.
