Woman hacked to death for refusing to offer Children for rituals in Kasungu

A woman in Kaungu has been hacked to death by her husband for refusing to offer their four children for rituals to get rich.
The incident happened on the night of 20-21 August, 2016.

Police in Kasungu have confirmed of the development and identified the suspect as Kasiteni Mwale,36 from Shimwaza village,Traditional Authority Chilowamatambe in the district.

According to police, the deceased Chimwemwe Kachedwa ia alleged to have been on separation with the suspect after the deceased rejected Mwale’s demand that they should offer their four children for rituals to get rich.

“On the day the deceased was murdered, it is alleged that Mwale visited the deceased under the pretext that they should reconcile. After having a lengthy conversation, the deceased started escorting the suspect who on the way hacked her with an axe in the head. The incident was witnessed by the deceased’ grandmother who was following them at a distance after becoming suspicious with the suspect.

“After realising that he had been seen by the deceased’ grandmother, Mwale also hacked the deceased grandmother who is now admitted at Ntchisi District Hospital,” reads in part the statement.

Postmortem conducted at Kasungu District Hospital showed that death was due to head injury secondary to Cerebral Haemorrage.

The deceased hailed from Chigambatula village under Traditional Authority Chilowamatambe in Kasungu district.
