DPP members demonstrate against bad wishers, who say Mutharika is ill, dead

Many followers and  some officials of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) on Saturday afternoon  matched in streets of Blantyre to hand in a petition to Blantyre District Commissioners Office against those who the rumours which putting about  that President Peter Mutharika’s health while claiming his death.

The rumours emerged in public as there was no guarantee communication from government on the president’s delay to return from the United States of America where he went to attend a United Nations General Assembly meeting.

Speaking to swarm of journalists who went to witness the march, DPP Governor for the South Charles Mchacha said the people have spoken ill about president health through social media which has eroded his respect.

Mchacha said as much as his party understands that people have a right of freedom of speech-as stipulated in the constitution of the Republic of Malawi, but said they are supposed to have limits.

“So today we submitted the petition to show our grievances, we want the social media, all ill-intentioned Malawians to respect our president” said Mchacha.

The march protests started at Sunbird Mount Soche through Clock Tower to the DC office all the way to Southern Region DPP office.

The petition also wants government of Malawi to take action against these bad wishers of president who have shown no respect to him as their leader.

President Mutharika is expected to return home today through Kamuzu International Airport.
