Blantyre, April 3, 2017: The Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) has pumped in millions for the construction of halls at community youth centres in Blantyre where youths will access training and information.
This was disclosed on Thursday when District Youth Officer (DYO) for Blantyre Baldwin Mkumbadzala and other officials from the district council visited the construction sites in the areas of Senior Chief Kunthembwe and Makata.
“We have been looking forward to having a place like this for our youths in the district such as a youth community based training centre where they can learn different skills which can benefit their lives,” said Mkumbadzala adding that his office will also lobby with TEVET in the program.
Mkumbadzala appealed to well-wishers to assist the centres with some equipment such as computers, books and other learning materials.
In his remarks Chairperson for the youth in the area of Senior Chief Kunthembwe, Willes Sauzande said he was excited with the coming of the hall to the area considering that the area is very far from town.
“This facility will reduce many challenges faced by the youths in this area such as bad behaviour emanated from peer pressure as most of the time they have nothing to do,” explained Sauzande.
Chairperson for the Area Development Committee (ADC) in Senior Chief Kunthembwe’s area, Harton Mulozi hailed Blantyre Synod for considering to bring the hall to the area which he said will not only benefit the youths but also the whole community.
According to Monitoring and Evaluation (M& E) Manager for Health and Development Commission in the synod of Blantyre Steve Mkathiwa, the construction of youth community based centres is part of the Mzatonse Programme targeting young people in the age group of 10 to 24 to address challenges they face in their life which can compromise their future.
According to Mkathiwa, the facilities which are at roofing level in both TAs will cost the synod over MK 20 million each and are expected to be handed over to the community through the district council by May this year.
