Police fires teargas at street vendors in Mzuzu

Business came into a standstill on Thursday in the ever green city of Mzuzu following the running battles between the police and the street vendors.

According to an eyewitness who rushed to the scenes, said the vendors were refusing to move out of the street and relocate to the newly constructed market.

When police went to the streets to chase them, the vendors started throwing stones at the law enforcers.

The police reacted harshly by firing tear gas at street vendors.

But no one was injured during the fracas.

Earlier this week, Mzuzu City Council said they will hire Malawi Defence Force Soldiers to chase street vendors.
