Rev Nyondo embarrasses Mutharika’s adviser for blocking Chakwera at Chief Malengamzoma’s funeral

General Secretary for CCAP Livingstonia Synod Reverend Levi Nyondo on Saturday openly criticized Presidential Advisor on Unity and Parliamentary Affairs Symon Vuwa Kaunda for blocking Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Lazarus Chakwera from speaking at the funeral ceremony of Traditional Authority (TA) Malengamzoma in Nkhata-bay.

The family released a funeral programme which showed that Chakwera will speak after Nkhatabay District chairperson But Vuwa Kaunda removed Chakwera from the list of speakers and placed himself.

The development did not please the family, church and other people who gathered at the funeral ceremony to witnesses the burial of Chief Malengamzoma real name, Olivia Nicy Manda.

In his speech Reverend Nyondo strongly condemned the act.

“Why have you made amendments to the programme without consulting us? Why is it that some people have spoken and others have not? This is CCAP Synof of Livingstonia’s funeral service and not political rally,” said Nyondo.

“Any programme of the synod’s funeral is made by the bereaved families in consultation with the government and the church. Next time, never dare to make the same mistake,” said Nyondo while attracting ululations from the people.

Speaking in an interview with the press after the funeral Kaunda admitted that he really changed programme.

Chief died in her sleep on the night of Tuesday at the age of 92 after serving for 43 years.
