Court rules in favour of MCP on convention case: Kaliwo, Msowoya’s suspension upheld

The High Court in Blantyre has given the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) a go ahead to hold the much awaited convention after throwing away an injunction obtained by Gustuv Kaliwo and others, restraining the party from conducting any party activity including the convention.

The High Court Judge has also upheld the suspension of MCP’s Secretary General Gustave Kaliwo, the party’s Vice President Richard Msowoya and Chatonda Kaunda.

Judge Jack N’riva delivered the ruling on Monday morning in the commercial capital Blantyre.

The Judge failed to deliver his ruling on Friday last week due to the fact that he was engaged with some official duties in Mangochi.

MCP suspended Kaliwo, the party Vice President Richard Msowoya and Chatonda Kaunda on grounds that they were creating parallel structures in the party.

The party also fired its spokesperson Jessie Kabwira due to the same matter.
