Scores of people from DPP, UDF and PP joins UP in Mangochi

Scores of people from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) and People’s Party (PP) are reportedly to have joined opposition Umodzi Party (UP).

Grace Fonseka who is the director of women for the party told face of Malawi in an interview.

She said the people joined the party Tuesday at a meeting they addressed at Mbaluku and Mangochi Malombe where traditional leaders from these areas were also in attendance.

“Many people are interested with the manifesto of the party because is aimed at addressing the challenges of high unemployment rate, access to education for everyone and justice for all. They also want to see our president Professor John Chisi,” he said.

She said they have set up party structures in the two areas and more people are willing to stand as councilors and members of parliament under the party’s ticket.

Fonseka also said people in the two areas wants to see change because have been cheated for so long by politicians from other political parties.

So does Ireen Paundi a member from the National Executive Committee (NEC) for UP who also said people want the UP leader because of his vision and he has the welfare of people at heart.

She said he has a clean record, God fearing person, he assist the under privileged people and is a well-educated man.

“We are very optimistic that we are going to win in next year’s elections because we have structures on the ground across Malawi and where ever we are going scores of people are coming to hear what we are going to do as well as to join us voluntarily after being satisfied with our policies,” she said.

UP is among four political parties namely DPP, UDF MCP and PP who have structures and are active on the ground out of the forty six political parties that were registered by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) that will contest in 2019 tripartite elections.
