Chamba Farmer on the Run in Mangochi

Police in Mangochi are looking for a man for cultivating cannabis sativa on the banks of Masanje Stream in the district.

Deputy Police Public Relations Officer(DPRO) Amina Daudi said on August 28,2018 they received a tip off that at Liwule Village in the area of Sub Traditional Authority (STA) Chiunda in the district someone was cultivating Cannibas Sativa.

“We were tipped by members of the community that Lambulire (whose full particulars are not yet known) cultivated cannabis sativa inside his garden along the banks of Masanje stream,” she said.

Daudi said immediately the Police rushed to the stream banks where they found a 30 by 3 metres garden of 1,500 plants of Indian hemp.

“The Police uprooted all the seedlings with the help of the well wishers as part of evidence,” she explained.

Meanwhile, police have since mounted a search for the perpetrator.

If arrested he will face the charge of cultivation of cannabis sativa which is contrary to regulation 6 as read with section 19 of dangerous drugs Act.
