A 17-year old love struck girl of Kalando village in Petauke district has committed suicide after her parents stopped her from getting married to her 20 year old boyfriend.
The deceased identified as Iveta Mbewe of Chief Mumbi is said to have committed suicide by taking maize preservative pesticide.
Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo has confirmed this to Mwebantu and said the parents had stopped their daughter from getting married on the basis that she was too young.
Katongo said the incident happened on Saturday, September, 1st, 2018 at about 19:00 hours at her village.
Katongo further said the deceased was rushed to Minga Mission Hospital where she later died at about 22:00 hours.
