‘Shithole’ remarks backfires at US First lady Melania Trump

Some Malawians of American origin on Thursday took to the street in the capital Lilongwe to protest against the remarks made by US President Donald Trump describing some countries in Africa as “shithole countries”.

The protest follows a visit by US First Lady Melania Trump who arrived in the country few hours ago and is currently visiting Chipala Primary School in Lilongwe which has benefitted from United States Agency for International Development (USAID) programs.

The protestors invaded the Highway in the capital Lilongwe carrying placards denouncing the remarks made by Trump.

“Welcome to Malawi not Shithole,” one of the placards read in part.
