Aspiring Member of Parliament for Blantyre City East Constituency Alex Chimwala has promised to develop the constituency once elected as an MP in the forthcoming May 21, 2019 tripartite election.
Chimwala, a shadow MP for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) made the remarks on Saturday during a rally held in the constituency.
In his speech Chimwala said Blantyre City East Constituency is less developed despite having a lot of industries.
“To be honest with you this constituency is one of the richest constituencies in the country. The constituency has several industries which makes a lot of business but the unfortunate thing is that the constituency does not benefit from these companies. In other countries, companies are encouraged to do a corporate social responsibilities as one way of giving back to the community.
“This blame cannot be heaped on President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika but previous MPs from this constituency who had not heart for this constituency since most of them were not real citizens of Blantyre City East Constituency . Once am voted into Parliament in the forthcoming polls I will make sure that each and every company is encouraged to do corporate social responsibility by either constructing a school or a health centre,” said Chimwala.
Coming to the development projects, Chimwala promised to construct a Secondary School at Fargo which will ease the burden of traveling long distances among learners hence reducing the dropout rate which he said is very high.
Chimwala also promised to construct a health centre in the constituency to ease the challenges that women and sick people go through.
He also promised to construct a youth centre close to Makhetha Primary School (Hammers) which will help the youths in the constituency.
On his part, National Youth Director for the constituency only known as Hendrix urged the people in the constituency to vote for Chimwala and President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika in the forthcoming polls for the constituency to develop.
He urged the people in the constituency not to be carried away by Independent MPs who have nothing to offer.
