National Bank of Malawi (NBM) has donated assorted relief items to the tune of K20 million to alleviate suffering faced by victims affected by floods which happened in March earlier this year.

NBM made the donation on Tuesday as part of their corporate social responsibility initiative to the country.

National Bank General Manager and Head of Wholesale Banking Harold Jiya said: “As you may recall, in March this year, the country was affected by heavy rains and floods.”

“As a corporate citizen, we learnt of the loss of property and livelihood and we thought it wise that we should be with our country and the affected people during this difficult time.”

Jiya said as NBM, they believe the donation will alleviate the suffering of our colleagues who are economic actors and our customers.”

Minister of Homeland Security Nicholas Dausi thanked the bank for the donation which he said has come at the right time.

“This donation will go a long way in alleviating the suffering of the affected people residing in camps.”

Dausi said the donation will be reach its the intended beneficiaries citing Neno, Mangochi and Dedza Districts as potential places to distribute the relief items.

The Minister then called upon other banks, companies, organisations and people of goodwill to emulate NBM example by donating towards flood response and recovery operations.
