‘Chakwera Beneficiary of Cashgate’ – Kaliati

Secretary General of United Transformation Movement (UTM) Patricia Kaliati has accused president of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Lazarus Chakwera for lacking integrity.

Kaliati made the accusation during UTM’s political campaign rally in Mangochi on Sunday.

According to Kaliati Chakwera received millions of kwacha funding for campaign in 2014 from Joyce Banda, a leader of Peoples Party (PP).

She further continued that no one in MCP knows where Chakwera directed the money to and how much he got from Banda.

“Chakwera received millions of Cashgate money from Joyce Banda and up to this day his does not know exactly how much he received,” said Kaliati.

Kaliati further challenged that she knows what she is talking about and she is ready to be dragged to court over the issue.

“I know what I am talking about, take me to court if you want to be embarrassed,” challenged Kaliati.

Under anonymity condition, a former PP member collaborated with Kaliati saying it was a huge sum of money which was placed to destabilize Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)

“It was a lot of money and there are a number fellow senior members in the party who are familiar with that operation,” he said.

Chakwera was not available to comment on the accusations by Kaliati.
