Man arrested for attempting to commit suicide after ex-wife rejected reunion

The police in Chikwawa have arrested a 33-year-old man for allegedly attempting to take his own life after his ex-wife rebuffed him overnight for a reunion.

The man, Fyson Henderson, was arrested on Monday following his attempted suicide around 1 a.m. of the same day.

This occurred at Muyaya village in Traditional Authority Maseya’s area.

Henderson is said to have divorced with his wife of 15 years some months back.

The divorce, however, left him unhappy and he had since made several attempts to win his ex back.

The ex, it is alleged, gave in to the pleas few days ago only to change her mind at an eleventh hour on Sunday evening.

Distraught, Henderson hanged himself to the roof of his house and was immediately rescued by his sister.

He will soon appear before court to answer a charge of attempted suicide.

The offence contravenes Section 229 of the Penal code and attracts a maximum sentence of 7 years in prison.

Henderson comes from Muyaya village in Traditional Authority Maseya’s area in Chikwawa District.
