113 Malawians Stranded in South Africa

Government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said at least 16 Malawians have been displaced in South Africa.

The Ministry’s spokesperson Rejoice Shumba has confirmed

“Yes we have received reports that 113 Malawians have been displaced in the city of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality of Gauteng Province in South Africa,” said Shumba.

According to Shumba, among the displaced people 68 are men, 30 are females and 15 are children.

The victims are reportedly to have been kept in temporary shelters in the town of Katlehong a place that was identified by the Department of Disaster in South Africa.

Shumba added that Malawi Mission in South Africa is constantly monitoring the facility to ensure safety and security of Malawi Nationals.

Meanwhile gift of givers is providing support to the victims.

“International Organization for Migration (IOM) has been contacted to assist in the repatriation of the victims that are willing to return to Malawi,” said Shumba.
