Analyst Cautions Govt on UNGA Trip Expenditures

Political Analyst has cautioned government on the expenditure of the president’s United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) trip considering the current economy situation the country is in.

To his expectations, Rafiq Hajat said the expenses were supposed to be minimal and the benefits to be brought back should alleviate the country’s situation.

“Considering the economy, collapsing of maize prices by 60%, depreciation of the Malawi Kwacha, I would expect the expenses to be minimum and that the benefits he brings should alleviate our situation as we are facing difficulties in the country.” Said Hajat.

President Peter Mutharika has left the country to attend UNGA in the United States but his entourage is not known.

Sustainable development goals, issues of climate change, and financing for development are some of the issues to be tabled during the discussion.
