Government hails Lilongwe Rotary Club

Government has hailed the Rotary Club of Lilongwe for the role it plays in assisting to improve health service delivery in the country.

The Deputy Minister of Health Halima Daudi spoke with Zodiak Online at a bed race organized by the Rotary Club of Lilongwe that the fund raising activity which was aimed at raising funds for repairing beds at Kamuzu Central Hospital is something that her ministry appreciates.

“As you are aware most hospitals especially, the health centres, do not have beds. Therefore this fund raising activity will assist in repairing some of the beds which are in bad shape,” said Mrs Daudi.

The deputy minister further urged wellwishers in the country to emulate the example shown by Rotary Club of Lilongwe because doing so is an obligation for any citizen of the country.

“I would like to call upon the business community, companies and even individuals to do the same because this is a good cause as it will benefit not only the government but also the rural people in the village,” said Mrs. Daudi who personally donated 100 thousand kwacha.

In his remarks President for the rotary club Mr. Clement Chilingulo said the activity has managed to raise 800 thousand kwacha.

“Initially 18 companies were supposed to participate but only 11 turned up today. However, we have managed to realize K800, 000 including the donation that the minister has made,” said Mr Chilingulo.

Mr Chilungulo further said that they decided to assist KCH to live up to their motto, ‘service above self’.

While expressing their joy that they emerged the best in both the best well decorated bed and the bed race, Sunbird Hotels’ Corporate Sale Executive Yamikani Chakhaza attributed their win to team spirit among staff members.

Sunbird Hotels went away with prize money of K50, 000 while the runners up were Seba Foods pocketed K 30, 000 and the third prize of K15, 000 went to TNM.

Other companies that also took part in the bed race were First Merchant Bank, National Bank, Standard Bank, Airtel Malawi, Techno Brain, Gestetner, Access Communications and Carlsberg.
