Peoples’ Party (PP) members last Friday gave musicians at the Musicians Association of Malawi (MAM) a rude awakening when they told them that they had to shut up or will go missing if they continue bickering.
The bone of contention was that the musicians were complaining of the money that the head of state who is also the leader of PP, Joyce Banda, had made towards the event. President had given MK 1 million towards the event, a thing that the musicians deemed as inappropriate coming from the head of state.
When it was announced that President Banda had contributed MK 1 million, there was murmur from the musicians saying that was too little as the President has made some more generous offers to other activities. Their complaints, however, culminated into a bitter talk with the PP supporters who had accompanied state Vice President, Khumbo Kachali, who said that it was better for the musicians to shut up.
However, when the musicians kept on complaining and some even uttering that they could as well have contributed the same amount to the event were they asked to, the PP supporters made the scary remarks of telling the men of the mic to shut up lest they go missing.
It was not until after the party functionaries left together with the Vice President that the tension was diffused.
