Member of Parliament for Lilongwe North-East Maxwell Thyolera was on Wednesday blocked by Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Clement Chiwaya from bringing people to testify in the House over his alleged police recruitment mess.
On Tuesday, Tholyera alleged that he has information that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is recruiting its cadet into Police force to help the party rig the 2019 elections.
The claims did no please the ruling DPP and leader of government in Parliament Dr. George Chaponda stood on point of order asking Deputy Speaker Esther Mcheka Chilenje allow Thyolera bring evidence on the matter by Wednesday afternoon.
When asked for evidence on Wednesday, Thyolera asked the house to allow him bring people in the house to testify on the matter but the Deputy Speaker declined saying there is no standing order that supports that.
“Hon. Members, we need to follow and respect our own standing orders, what the Hon. Member is asking is not provided for in the standing orders,” advised the Second Deputy Speaker.
When Thyolera argued using standing order number 174 that provides for evidence in the House it was found out that the standing order is not also in line with standing order 102that empowers the Speaker to call for evidence when Member of Parliament has made allegations in the chamber.
Then Chiwaya ruled that that the statements uttered by Thyolera be removed from the hansard and seize to make part of the contributions on the floor.
Published report indicates that most of the newly recruited Police officers have not MSCE certificates and some were brought to the training school by Cabinet Ministers.
