Teacher Hangs Himself over Corruption Claims

A teacher aged 44 has hanged himself after a certain man claimed that he received a bribe in order to reserve space for a student at Mtendere Secondary School.

Dedza police public relations officer Constable Cassim Manda has identified the deceased as Robert Lungu.

He said a man went to his house when he was away and found his wife whom he told that the husband needed to pay back K250, 000 that he received from him in a bid to save space for his child at Mtendere Secondary School.

When the deceased got back home, his wife told him about the visitor’s message.

However, a day later Mr Lungu was discovered hanging in his kitchen.

The scene was visited by the police who took the body to Dedza Hospital where also a postmortem revealed cause of the death as suffocation due to strangulation.

Meanwhile, police are looking for a man who is believed to have made the claims that forced the teacher to hang himself.

Lungu hailed from Kadzinkambani Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kabudula in Lilongwe district.
