Political Analyst George Phiri has cautioned President Peter Mutharika for politicizing bloodsucking myths.
The University of Livingstonia analyst said this following Mutharika’s Thursday speech where he said the opposition are the ones inciting violence by creating such rumors.
According to Mutharika, Malawi Congress Party (MCP) leaders Lazarus Chakwera is the one giving out orders to attack people believed to bloodsuckers.
Mutharika also noted that such incident mostly resurface when the country is due to go into polls with an aim of branding his government with wrong picture.
In contrary with Mutharika point of view, Phiri said the existence of bloodsucking rumors have been there since one party era.
According to Phiri, the matter generally lacks political will.
Phiri said now is the time for government to work with the opposition other than continuing with politics of castigation.
Phiri has since proposed for a thorough study into the matter.
Ironically, Mutharika once went to Chiradzulu to hear out from victims of the alleged bloodsucking rumors when it got out of hand in 2018 in the Southern region.
