Parliament starts 2019 electoral materials disposal process

Parliament has started the process of disposing of ballot materials used in the 21st May, 2019 presidential and parliamentary elections.
The disposal is in line with Section 119 of the Presidential and Parliamentary Elections Act which mandates the Clerk of Parliament to safely store all electoral materials for a period of 12 months.
The process has started with the transfer of the ballot materials from Parliament’s regional warehouses in Blantyre and Mzuzu to Lilongwe where the disposal will take place.
Parliament Deputy Secretary Maggie Chinsinga has said the 12 months to store the materials has elapsed hence the disposal.
However, electoral materials for constituencies where there are undetermined electoral disputes or where there are appeals pending will continue to be stored safely.
The constituencies are Mangochi West, Phalombe North, Mangochi North East, Mangochi Monkey Bay, Nsanje North, Nsanje Central and Chikwawa East.
The date of the disposal will be communicated once the necessary procurement processes are concluded.
