The First Grade Magistrate’s court sitting at Levi Jere, at Jenda in Mzimba District has convicted and sentenced Saidi Nyirongo to Five years imprisonment with hard labour for burglary and theft.

Deputy Public Relations Officer for Jenda Police Station, Constable Godknows Malema, has said the court heard from State Prosecutor Sergeant Reveland Gondwe that the convict committed the offence during the night of December 24 to 25, 2025, after breaking into the victim’s house through a small window while the owners were asleep and stole several items, including a Samsung plasma television set, a Dell laptop and other assorted valuables.

According to Malema, Nyirongo had been on the run since last year until May 14, 2026, when police arrested him.

During court proceedings, Nyirongo pleaded guilty to all charges but asked the court for leniency, claiming that he was still a juvenile, however, the state asked for a stiffer punishment, describing him as a habitual offender.

In his ruling, First Grade Magistrate Ezekiel Kantikana agreed with the state and has sentenced Nyirongo to five years imprisonment with hard labour contrary to Section 308 of the Penal Code.
