Police in Chiradzulu District have arrested 15 suspects, including six alleged members of the “80 Niggas” gang, over a series of robberies and assaults reported around Chitembele, Thumbwe and Nsoni markets.
According to Chiradzulu Police spokesperson Hubert Mwangoka, the arrests followed a complaint lodged by Community Policing Forum member Isaac Lombola, 38, who alleged that he was attacked and robbed while investigating the gang’s activities.
Mwangoka said Lombola reported that the suspects assaulted him and stole a Tecno Pop 7 cellphone valued at K350,000 alongside K80,000 in cash.
Police say Lombola and fellow CPF members had received information that Mphatso Chithenga, 24, and his group were allegedly assaulting and robbing people at the market.
While following up on the reports near Chisombezi River, Lombola was reportedly ambushed by the suspects.
The six suspects linked to the alleged gang have been identified as Mphatso Chithenga of Chituta Village, believed to be the group’s leader, Godfrey Losa, 22, of Chiniko Village, and Fedson Makonyola, 21, Yamikani Sungani, 21, Clement Nsapato, 21, and Francis Nandolo, 20, all from Nkolimbo Village under Traditional Authority Kadewere in Chiradzulu.
All the suspects are expected to appear before court soon.
