Pregnant Covid-19 Patient Molested By Doctor Awaits Justice

A woman who was allegedly molested by a doctor in Bengaluru is waiting for the arrest of the perpetrator even after one month of the incident. Reportedly, no progress has been made into the case even as a month has passed.

The COVID-19 patient had been brought to the care facility in Victoria Hospital for her treatment. On the night of July 25, a doctor working at the Trauma Care Centre allegedly sexually harassed the then pregnant woman.

The woman told the nodal officer of the ward, Dr Asima Banu about the incident. On July 30, the woman approached the VV Puram police station and lodged a complaint in relation to the incident. The woman, however, could not identify the accused.

Initially, an internal inquiry into the case was launched but the police then started an investigation with the riots that took place in KG Halli and DJ Halli. Meanwhile, the internal inquiry was completed. As per the cops, a case was registered 5 days after the incident took place.

A police officer privy to the case said that the findings of the inquiry will be handed over to the police by Tuesday and the same will be used to locate the perpetrator, The Times of India reported.

Dr Ramesh Krishna K, medical superintendent of Victoria Hospital confirmed that the internal inquiry report was submitted to the director of Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute. He added, “We are not authorised to divulge findings.”

The complainant is still COVID-19 positive and she delivered a baby last week. The police could not record the woman’s statement due to her health. A police officer said, “We will do it once she recovers. “
