A 27-year-old man, who allegedly uploaded and shared child pornographic material from his cellphone, has been arrested by Gujarat Police on Sunday. The man identified as Guddu Kumar Rai, was arrested from Kadi town in Mehsana.

Police said the accused, who lives in Sarpanch colony of Rajpur village under Kadi town of Mehsana, was arrested by a police team from Kalol city police station.

According to a report in Indian Express, Guddu Rai is a native of Samastipur district in Bihar and works as a daily wage labourer in Mehsana. The accused has been booked under sections of the Information Technology Act.

The police action against Rai came after Gandhinagar-based Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) confirmed that the phone of the accused contained child pornographic material.

“We received a complaint from the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in February 6 this year that a certain mobile phone in Kalol city has been used to upload and share child pornographic material. The accused’s phone was seized on January 28 and then sent for FSL tests. The report concluded that the phone had child pornography contents after which the accused was formally arrested,” the report quoted a police officer as saying.

In a similar incident reported from Tamil Nadu in January this year, a man was arrested from Pollachi area of Tirupur district for allegedly watching and circulating child pornography. The accused was a 23-year-old man from Assam.

The accused was allegedly circulating pornography on social media. The accused was booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) and the Information Technology Act. The accused had been working at a tile manufacturing factory for more than two years.

In the past, the state police had received several complaints regarding the circulation of child pornography on social media.
