Henry Mussa rejects Mutharika’s appointment

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) top official Henry Mussa has rejected his appointment as Deputy Publicity Secretary citing personal reasons.

The development comes barely days after some members of the National Governing Council (NGC) asked the Nation Executive Committee (NEC) to quash all appointments made during an emergency meeting convened by Peter Mutharika, leader of the party.

In a letter dated August 29 addressed to DPP Secretary General and Copied to Mutharika, Mussa said he has not refused the post but he has recused himself from the post.

“I have struggled a lot to reach this decision but I have ultimately resolved that given circumstances and in the conformity with both my personal and political principals, recusing myself from taking up the position remains the best option,” reads in part the letter.

Effort to talk to DPP Spokesperson Brown Mpinganjira on the matter proved futile.

DPP is currently in troubled waters as top officials continue to resign from their position and one of them is Dr. Ben Phiri who resign from the post of Director of Elections.

Mutharika last week also fired the party Secretary General Grezelder Jefffrey for calling for convention.
