Ntcheu Accident Claims 14 Lives

At least 14 people have died while several others injured when a Toyota Hiace Minibus was involved in a head-on collision with a Bus belonging to Tam-Tam Bus Service at Guya village, at Mlanda Trading Centre in Ntcheu on Friday night.

The minibus which was being driven by unknown driver who is among the dead, was coming from the direction of Dedza heading Ntcheu.

Sub Inspector Hastings Chigaru, police spokesperson for Ntcheu, has confirmed the development.

Chigaru said upon arrival at Mlanda, due to reasons yet to be established, the minibus collided with the Tam-Tam bus which was coming from the direction of Ntcheu.

He said following the impact, 12 passengers and driver of the minibus were pronounced dead upon arrival at Dedza District Hospital.

Of the 14 dead, sevenare males, six female and three years old child.

Chigaru said three passengers sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical attention at Dedza district hospital.

He said currently, the police are on the ground to establish more details of the accident, and that they will update the nation accordingly.
